Office Technology Survey to Provide Data for New Curriculum
The Office Administration
team, led by Margaret Taylor of Coastline College and Theresa
Savarese of San Diego City College, worked with office educators
statewide to create an Office Technology survey. This survey
focused on business and industry employment trends and was
given to employment agencies, one-stop centers, professional
organization, Rotary and other service clubs, etc. for distribution.
Curriculum was developed based on results of the survey. The
group worked with high schools to integrate their office occupations'
students into the community college with transfer-in credits.
In addition, they worked with community college counselors
and One-Stop Centers to inform them about new programs. A major
focus was on office occupations classes and the creation of
online courses and certificates. An example of their online
efforts included a course on Becoming a Virtual Assistant. New
coursework developed includes subject matter such as e-Portfolios,
Introduction to PDA’s, and Blackberry.
